When Dave Staley of sportsbook.com sent in his weekly breakdown of the Eagles' line Friday afternoon, the Birds were 1.5-point underdogs.
But when I checked the line again Saturday afternoon, they had moved to 1-point favorites on sportsbook.com. I checked out some other sites, and the lines range from Giants favored by one to a pick 'em to the Eagles favored by one. Keep that in mind as you scroll through his analysis.
Q: What's the line for Sunday night's matchup against the Giants?
A: We originally opened this number at Philly (+1.5) but quickly moved it to +1 as plenty of early bettors jumped on the Eagles. Now it's Eagles (-1)
Thanks to last week’s impressive performance in Atlanta, coupled with Dallas losing to the Giants, the Eagles are our current favorite (+140) to win the NFC East.
After a bit of a rough stretch, the Eagles have pulled off three straight victories, and the bettors have noticed as 75 percent of the action is on Philly. The line doesn’t surprise me at all. I am surprised a bit by the one-sided action though; I thought it would be a lot closer to 50/50.
Then again, considering the Eagles beat the Giants straight up the last three times they've played, maybe the bettors are on to something, especially considering that two of those victories were at the Meadowlands.
Additionally, the Giants have not been kind to bettors this season when they've played a team with a winning record, posting a 1-6 record against the spread in those instances.
With the Giants' victory over Dallas last week, they are listed at +175 to win the NFC East.
On the field, the Eagles have 20 picks on the year, which is fourth-most in the NFL, contributing to their +12 turnover margin (third in the NFL). Meanwhile, the Giants' turnover margin is -1.
