Eagles' penalties; Giants demoting Osi?

Before we get to the weekly penalty count, some interesting news out of Giants camp.

Defensive end Osi Umenyiora took reps with the second-team defense yesterday, according to Jenny Vrentas of NJ.com.

Tom Coughlin would not say whether Umenyiora would start in Sunday's big matchup against the Cowboys.

Umenyiora has five sacks on the season, and the Giants have lost five of their last six games.

Before the season, if I would have predicted that Winston Justice would play well and get a four-year extension, and Umenyiora would get demoted, well, you likely would have stopped reading MTC. Crazy how things play out in this league.

Now on to the penalty breakdown.

The Eagles were penalized seven times for 60 yards last week against the Redskins. They are now third in the league in total penalties, behind the Packers and Cowboys. The Birds are fourth in penalty yards, behind the Ravens, Packers and Texans.

Winston Justice was called for a pair of penalties - one for holding, another on a false start.

Brent Celek and Jamaal Jackson were each called for their first penalties of the season.

Special teams was again a problem, as Ted Daisher's unit was charged with three penalties for 30 yards. The offense was responsible for four penalties. The defense did not get penalized at all.

Here's the breakdown on the season:
