Eagles mock draft roundup
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
Update: I will not be posting new content for the next several days, as I attend to a personal matter. Check out our Eagles section for the latest from the Inquirer and Daily News.
Here's a roundup of some recently released mock drafts:
Evan Silva and Josh Norris of Rotoworld have the Eagles taking USC defensive end Nick Perry at No. 15:
After retaining DeSean Jackson with the franchise tag, the Eagles are without a singular pressing need. Pass rushers are always welcomed by the organization, though, and Perry fits the Philly mantra as an explosive sack artist who flies off the edge. The Eagles can't count on knee-troubled former first-round pick Brandon Graham, and Darryl Tapp may be released ahead of his April 11 roster bonus. Perry would give the Birds another wave rusher behind Jason Babin and Trent Cole.
It's worth noting that they have Boston College linebacker Luke Kuechly slipping all the way to No. 32 and the Giants.
Chad Reuter of NFL.com has the Eagles taking Kuechly:
Kuechly measured in at 242 pounds and ran two 40s in the 4.5-range, exceeding scouts’ expectations in both areas. He also looked fluid in coverage drills, which would make him the three-down defensive leader the Eagles have lacked the past few seasons.
Rob Rang of CBSSports.com thinks it'll be Kuechly too:
Philadelphia may be perfectly positioned to nab the most productive linebacker in recent college football history. More decorated than a wedding cake, Kuechly is the reigning Butkus, Nagurski, Lombardi and Lott Impact Trophy Award winner and has more career tackles (532) than any other linebacker in the country. That's saying something considering he's leaving after his junior season. By running in the 4.5s, according to some stopwatches, at the Combine, Kuechly proved he's not just as the most instinctive linebacker in the draft, he's one of the most athletic.
Albert Breer of NFL Network has the Eagles going with Memphis defensive tackle Dontari Poe:
If there's an issue with Jim Washburn's defensive line, it's that the group's a little light. Poe solves that problem. And then some.
Peter Schrager of FoxSports.com has the Eagles taking Kuechly:
There were questions about his speed heading into the combine, but he put those questions to rest with a blazing 4.5 40-yard dash. He’s been compared to Sean Lee, without the durability and injury issues. Kuechly’s considered a first-day NFL starter. Slate him into that Philly defense and watch out.

Bring in Plax and they are set at receiver. Or sign Colston, and trade DJax. Sign Tulloch and draft a LB (1st or 2nd round). If they trade DJax (presumably for a 2nd rounder, maybe a low one), then package that pick plus one of the 2nds to move into the first or higher in the first. Take a DT. I have no answer for Safety. Hope the guys improve or figure out a way to get a better one (free agent, trade Asante?). Or, if Reid knows he is safe, scrap all of the above and do what it takes to get RGIII. Penfold18
Please no combine warriors ! ! !
Kuechly did it on the field.... nobody heard of this guy Poe before the underwear olympics.
...and no USC defensive ends!! ...anybody remember Kenechy Udeze, Everson Griffith, Shaun Cody, etc. etc.

Eagles have needs on defense, and a stud DT or DE would be just fine by me. Kuechly looks like a great leader with a high motor and great work ethic. I'd love to see him in Eagles green ... but would hate to see him slip down in the 1st round and go to the Giants. Ugh! iggles23

Heres what is going to happen, as it always does. Andy reid is going to, again, try to be smart by half. They will draft a dark horse that knowbody ever heard of or someone that was projected to go in the 3rd or 4th round. This candadite will end up being a "project" and will fade into oblivion after a few seasons. Bank on it. Phishface
I swear my test levels drop every time I read the whiny, incessant comments from grown a men on this board. Amazing. Like little girls whose parents forget their favorite hair clip. Yeah I'm not really feeling the notion the Eagles have no pressing need. I would take it to mean that "relative to the other teams picking in the area of 15", the Eagles don't have a pressing need. They clearly need an OLB that can do quite a few things, including cover a TE, no small feat in today's NFL. If draft history means anything, the Eagles will select a lineman with their first pick, a S or LB with their second, or think they have value with moving either down or up. Keep in mind, Mudd said it best in regards to Watkins last year -- going from college to starting immediately in the pros is like going from crawling to a sprinting event. The notion a LB comes right in and is immediately productive and effective is not probable. It is the rare player who can (see: Von Miller). Murrayman
The Birds, have to get a free agent MLB. like Lofton, or Tulloch. I would take Poe, at 15 to lock down that A-B, gap.
Keuchly, would probably be better on the edge but not the middle. I have keuchly, going to Houston. Lb 54 wide 9- I would love to see the Eagles draft Poe. On top of what he would bring right away (a big bodied run stuffer), if Andy Reid does get fired after this season, the new coach would have the option of staying with a 4-3 or switching to a 3-4. The level of competition at Memphis isn't that great, but I think Washburn could really make something out of this kid. And if you saw any Lions games last season, you see what a great D tackle can do for a team. Last place to the playoffs. I'm not trying to make a direct comparison of Poe to Suh, just saying, getting a push in the middle of the pocket creates havoc. Stopping opposing teams from running up the gut for 5 yds every time isn't just on the linebackers, the D tackles have to drop somebody sometimes too. Keuchly wouldn't break my heart, but my first choice would be Poe. If they're both gone, Alabama ILB Hightower.
Melvin Ingram, DE, South Carolina should be the pick if he lasts until #15. Oddball
Maybe they'll draft a STUD DT and he'll be so good, there will be no need to rely on a LB Titanic
The one thing you can expect the Eagles to do in the draft is to do something you DON'T expect the Eagles to do in the draft.Football experts ,mock draft specialists aside....When is the last time the Eagles drafted who they were projected to Draft ?? As I recall the last time was Donovan McNabb....or am I wrong ?? Ernie Garman
