Buehrle hoped for a Vick injury

POSTED: Wednesday, February 9, 2011, 10:35 PM

Not everyone is going to forgive Michael Vick.

I'm sure the Eagles' quarterback is well aware of that.

But he'd probably be surprised to hear what fellow professional athlete Mark Buehrle had to say about him during a recent interview.

Buehrle, a veteran pitcher for the Chicago White Sox, was interviewed by Scott Merkin of MLB.com, discussing he and his wife's love for dogs and their roles as animal-rights advocates.

In the original version of the story (per Yahoo Sports' David Brown), Buehrle offered this take on Vick.

"Even if you are not a dog lover, how can you sit there and make two dogs fight and one is going to die?" said Buehrle. "How could you do that if you are somewhat sane?

"[Vick] had a great year and a great comeback, but there were times where we watched the game and I know it's bad to say, but there were times where we hope he gets hurt. Everything you've done to these dogs, something bad needs to happen to these guys."

While those quotes no longer appear in the story, they are still available on Merkin's Twitter account.

Earlier Tuesday, I posted on the Eagles' spending and checked out some mock drafts.

Well said finalsay. If Vick was just some factory worker who moved next door with the same past these guys would be crucifying him. Since he can throw a football though they will blindly worship him. Guys never got past the hero worship stage of their lives are truly to be pitied.

It ain't hero worship, Mr. Morals. It's called "letting go" of something that happened long ago, doesn't affect you or me directly, and isn't that big a deal. Stop sobbing about the poor dogs, get a hobby, and soon you'll feel better!

Aren't going to jail, losing all your endorsements, and filing for bankruptcy all bad things? Everyone who wishes Vick harm or death is just as bad. It shows how stupid we all really are, if we're reverting back to an ancient policy - eye for an eye - for terms of punishment. You are no better than Vick.

He's entitled to his opinion just like everyone else.
Everyone remember before you criticize, remember when you got cut off in traffic last week, and you hoped the guy who did it would get caught speeding by a trooper, or wipe out into a guard rail?
This is no different, we all feel like this sometimes, Buehrle should NOT have said this to a reporter, but if you say you've never wished bad on other people, you are a stone-cold LIAR.

The point many are making is that this fool is a Hypocrite for moralizing about dog flights while wishing injury on another pro athlete that would presumably hurt or end their career. I'm human so I've stupidly wished ill on others in a fit of anger before, but I'm not out there moralizing about Vick. Get it?

Good comment Steveo31. I'll one up you. How many of you wished a football player would get hurt just because he was wearing the wrong jersey? For starters, I'm talking to you classy fans who attended the Eagles game on October 10, 1999.

Of course he is entitled to his opinion... as we all are in this country.
But I don't think hoping for someone to be pulled over when they are driving wrecklessly is a bad thing... It just might save a life or ten. Perhaps even yours.

Mark Buehrle showed he is no better a human being than Michael Vick. Or did he not realize the irony.

Opinions are like......you know what. Who cares what he thinks or anyone else. Sometimes it's just better to keep your mouth shut.
