Police: Caretaker stole from elderly in Montco
Lansdale police announced today the arrest of an employee in connection with the theft of jewelry and money from four residents of Elm Terrace Garden, a nursing home on N. Broad St., Lansdale.
Sgt. Alex Kromdyk said Diane Witynski of Hatfield Village Apartments in Hatfield Township, is accused of stealing jewelry valued at $5380 and $80 in cash on four days dates in late July and early August.
All the items were taken from the victims' rooms.
Police said Witynski, 55, was hired in June. She was the one employee working on all four dates when the thefts occurred, Kromdyk said.
Lansdale detectives discovered that Witynski had been selling jewelry to a Hatfield Township jeweler. On Aug. 29, Witynski sold jewelry to that store, and the victim identified the stolen property.
Witynski was arrested Sept. 1 at the Montgomery County nursing home and charged with theft and receiving stolen property.
District Judge Harold Borek of Lansdale set bail at 10 percent of $5000 which Witynski posted. A preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 25 before Borek.
