Lower Merion mosquitoes to get second spraying

POSTED: Friday, August 3, 2012, 4:59 PM

The Montgomery County Health Department has told Lower Merion Township that more spraying will be needed to kill off mosquitoes that are carrying West Nile Virus.

A previous spraying cut down on the number of adult bugs carrying the virus in certain areas, but five traps contained mosquitoes with West Nile Virus, the department said.

As a result, the department plans another truck-mounted spraying on Monday, Aug. 13, weather permitting, between 8:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. The rain date is Tuesday, Aug. 14., during the same hours.

Two areas will be sprayed:

1. All residential streets bounded by E. Wynnewood Road, Lancaster Avenue, Remington Road and Bowman Avenue.

2. All residential streets bounded by Morris Road, Grenox Road, Sussex Road, Athens Avenue, W. Wynnewood Road and Clothier Road.

Residents have been advised by county health officials to dump water from any containers outdoors because mosquitoes breeding in standing water.
