Pennsylvanians have sex three minutes at a time on average

Sex in America is one of the final taboo topics—one that more or less no one is comfortable discussing with their kids, let alone in public. Perhaps not surprisingly, that squeamishness has resulted in a country full of sexually illiterate adults. On average, of course.

Sex in America is one of the final taboo topics—one that more or less no one is comfortable discussing with their kids, let alone in public. Perhaps not surprisingly, that squeamishness has resulted in a country full of sexually illiterate adults. On average, of course.

Nerve has pulled together data showing us the average amount of time people have sex broken down by state, and Pennsylvania falls almost smack-dab in the middle at number 24. Nerve trolled a 10,000-person strong data set from the Spreadsheet app to get their final numbers, finding that sex in America usually goes for anywhere from three to 13 minutes at a time.

Except in Alaska, where sex lasts for just 81 seconds on average. Or South Dakota, which clocks in at 1.5 minutes. Pennsylvania's number isn't much better, averaging out to 2:58, so don't start throwing out insults just yet.

The king of the sexual crop, though, is undoubtedly New Mexico, which has a 7-minute run time—about 90 seconds longer than runner-up West Virginia.

Which, of course, is to say that we're in a sorry state of sexual affairs. The full list is below:
