Yacht Rock Party

I'm regretting I didn't make it out to see Os Mutantes show at the World Cafe Live last night, though I caught the Brazilian psychedelic rock legends live on WXPN, and they sounded great. (David Stampone's review will be in Wenesday's Inquirer. Meanwhile I'm trying to find a link to the broadcast on the XPN, but have been unsuccessful so far...). But besides hunkering down with the Avett Brothers thoroughly soulful I and Love and You and watching Brett Favre rifling balls all over the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, I did get to see some music on TV. Like that Snoop Dogg-Mike Ditka commercial.  And more to the point, the "Yacht Rock Party" on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, in which the host, The Roots and the audience all donned their Thurston Howell III hats, while the Philadelphia hip-hop-plus band backed up '70s soft-rock baldie Christopher Cross. On the show, the Roots and Cross did his hit "Ride Like The Wind" with Michael McDonald popping out for a surprise cameo, and in a Web only clip, they teamed up for the more squeezable-than-than-Charmin "Sailing." (That's here.) ?uestlove looked quite pleased with the whole endeavor. The Roots' How I Got Over comes out Oct. 20. "Ride Like The Wind" is below.
