Springsteen To Release Darkness Box Set In November

On November 16, Bruce Springsteen will release a box set dedicated to his 1978 album Darkness On The Edge of Town called, appropriately enough, The Promise: The Darkness On The Edge Of Town Story.

It's hardly shocking news: Thom Zimny's similarly titled documentary The Promise: The Making Of "Darkness on the Edge of Town" will be shown at next month's Toronto Film Festival, with Springsteen attending the screening and talking with actor Edward Norton about his music and American filmmaking. The film will be shown on HBO in October 7.

But for Springsteen fans, the details are juicy: Twenty one previously unreleased songs will be included, and the Deluxe Package includes 3 CDs and 3 DVDs, with one disc devoted to an Asbury Park performance of the album from 2009, one disc containing an entire show from Houston in 1978 in its and another with various Darkness era live performances from 1976-78, including a song caleld "Save My Love" that I don't believe I've ever heard, which is now streaming at BruceSpringsteen.net.

There will also be a 2 CD version of The Promise that spares you all the extras if you don't want them. Among the unreleased titles: "Gotta Get That Feeling," "Outside Looking In," "The Little Things My Baby Does," and "Spanish Eyes." There are also several Springsteen cuts of songs he gave away to other artists, such as "Fire" (The Pointer Sisters), "Because The Night" (Patti Smith), "Rendezvous (Greg Kihn), and "Talk To Me" (Southside Johnny).
