Muscle Shoals, Big Star docs highlight XPN Music Film Fest

Music movie fest kicks off April 11.

The second annual WXPN Music Film Festival  will take place from April 11 to 14, screening 17 movies in a variety of University City venues.

Music movies of notes include Drew DeNicola's Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me, about the legendary Memphis power pop band; Greg Canmalier's Muscle Shoals, about the Alabama soul music sound that produced classics by Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett and the Rolling Stones; Twenty Feet From Stardom. Morgan Neville's Sundance hit that tells the unsung stories of back-up singers to the stars; A Year In The Live of Wayne's Phone, a compiliation of video footage shot by Flaming Lips' singer Wayne Coyne that left viewers deeply confused at this month's SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas; and Pleased To Meet Me, Archie Borders' fictional story of an aging punk and his former producer starring John Doe and Aimee Mann.

The fest is being presented in tandem with the Philadelphia Film Society. More info here and here.
