James Maddock at the Tin Angel

Soulful British singer-songwriter James Maddock is at the Tin Angel tonight. Maddock was formerly with Wood, a good band with a bad name whose one album, Songs From Stamford Hill, came out a decade ago on Columbia and got lost in the corporate shuffle. The now New York based guitarist has a solid and often Springstenesque new solo album out called Sunrise On Avenue , which is getting a little love on WXPN. Here's a link to his MySpace, and below he skillfully makes sentimental romance out of life in Alphabet City on the album's title track. He'll be back in town for a Springsteen trubute at the World Cafe Live on Sept. 23.
