Gimme Mick

Mick Jagger will be performing on the Grammy telecast next Sunday February 13 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, joining Raphael Saadiq as part of an in memoriam tribute segment to musicians who have died in the last year. The lone Stone is the latest addition to the list of acts that includes Arcade Fire, Eminem, Miranda Lambert, Cee Lo Green, Bruno Mars, Janelle Monae, B.o.B., Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga and The Muppets. Jagger's addition hardly qualifies as big news, but it did put me in mind of this 1979 routine by the late great Gilda Radner as Candy Slice and the Slicers, doing "Gimme Mick." Candy Slice was kind of a cross betwen Patti Smith and Amy Winehouse ahead of her time. And yes, that is a not yet bald Paul Shaffer on drums, an the always mugging G.E. Smith on guitar.
