Villanova B-school dean Danko quits to run Butler U

James Danko, dean of Villanova University's business school since 2005, is leaving to take over as president of Butler University in Indianapolis.

Villanova administrator Kevin Clark will be acting dean as of Danko's departure this summer, says spokeswoman Liz Field.

"It'll be tough leaving behind the Villanova people. But opportunity calls," Danko told me. He met with the Butler search committee in March and with the trustees in mid-April. "Indianapolis gets me closer to my Midwest roots" and Cleveland, where he grew up, the son of a trucking company line manager.

Danko majored in religious studies at John Carroll University and ran a home medical equipment business and othe rfirms for 20 years before he became a college manager, first at the University of Michigan (where he earned his MBA), later at Dartmouth and Villanova. "Best thing I have going for me is a strong liberal arts foundation," that gave him "writing skills and analytical abilities," he told me.
