Comcast Corp., Philadelphia, "reduced head count by roughly 3,300 people in 2008," as the cable-Internet-phone giants consolidated its 29 regions into 21 to cope with slowing growth of new customers, COO Stephen Burke told investors in a conference call.

Separately, SEI Corp., Oaks, said today it will cut 5 to 10% of its workforce, or up to 230 people, as the mutual fund industry contracts.

Comcast employs around 100,000 nationally, with over 12,000 in the Philadelphia area. Most of SEI's 2,300 workers are locally-based.
