Cable-company revenues per subscriber are up 5.3% over the last year, vs just 3.6% for wireless, notes Craig Mofett, telecom analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein Research.
That's because wireless is competitive : Verizon vs AT&T Mobility vs T-Mobile vs Sprint vs MetroPCS or Leap (and both, uniquely, in Philadelphia), vs resellers like Virgin Mobile and Tracfone and regionals like US Cellular and Cox...
While cable is still local-monopolistic: You get Comcast or TimeWarner Cable or Cablevision or Cox...
So wireless prices are dropping, while cable prices are going up. "Five years ago, when cable broadband was introduced at around $40, consensus expectations projected that prices would fall by as much as a third by now. Instead, they've risen."
And wireless, Moffett notes, is only likely to Internet 40% of America, leaving cable with the rest.

And Comcast provides you with a bunch of grabage programming. Why do we have to pay for terrible channels that I virtually never watch. Part of this is due to Verizon's misleading advertising. They advertise a cheap rate for Fios, but not until you try to sign up do you find out that they also tack on an additional $20+ fee for every TV in the house.
You forget one thing. Verizon hasn't started in Philadelphia yet. When they do, comcast is either going to improve their product and lower their price or go out of business. In Bensalem, we Fios. It is far superior to Comcast. If after the two year deal- Verizon raises its prices ,I will go back to Direct TV. I WILL NEVER EVER go back to comcast. Both Fios & Direct TV are far better in every way. You will see as soon as they start Fious in Philly next year. We're gonna have one big empty skyscraper. Good riddance to them. They are a horrible company.- You forgot one thing, Fios has started in Philadelphia. I had Fios for a bit, but it was horrible and expensive, and this supposed faster was almost un-noticeable. They don;t have the infrastructure to cover the service, anf service calls for fios are horrible. I don't know why i ever tried to get it before comcast. I pay $100 a month for internet and cable with comcast, I have no complaints whatsoever, my service s good.— Capsulef

- Comcast rapes people's pockets. They have such high prices. I am sick of Comcast. I can not wait until Verizon becomes available in my area. I just don't understand what is Verizon is talking its sweet time coming to my area of the city.
- I've never understood the anger towards Comcast. It's a great product which has evolved nicely. It could be cheaper, but I like the options, High def and on demand are revolutionary and the digital onscreen guide is the greatest innovation since color. Internet is fast and flawless. Now they have the phone tied in to where when it rings the caller ID comes up on the TV screen. How cool is that?— MD20202020
- Today I found out how Comcast makes extra money. Yesterday when I was reviewing my monthly bill, I noticed that I was charged for 6 HDTV boxes, even though I only have one HDTV box. When I contacted Comcast, they informed me that I have been paying for 6 boxes for 3 years now. Unfortunately, Comcast told me that I cannot receive a refund because I should have been checking my bill more closely. HUH? Comcast admitted they have been stealing from me, yet they don't think that they are responsible for the error. Now I know why Mr. Roberts is one of the highest paid CEOs in the area! - FIOS is flat out the best. Those of you complaining about having FIOS probably had DSL...you don't know what you're talking about. It has greater bandwidth than Comcast...does NOT compete with other users like Comcast (it uses a contention scheme with other subscribers)..FIOS is a "home run" from your house to the Verizon switch..no intermediate stops...before making these stupied statements brush up on the technology...again. fiber to the home vs. Comcast dishing out bandwidth based on available capacity on copper..yes, they have backbone fiber, but not to the residence.
