LOS ANGELES -- This is my last day here. I'm at the airport ready to board a flight back to Philly. It's been a busy, hectic nine days, but the time spent at the Rose Bowl was exhilarating, nevertheless. Unfortunately, for Penn State fans, the Lions didn't show up and lost to Southern Cal, 38-24. Actually, even if they showed up, I'm not sure they could have competed with the Trojans.

Joe Paterno held his season wrap up gabfest with beat reporters yesterday. It was mostly tame, save for his admission that he thought briefly that this season could have been the end as he battled through a hip injury.

OK, folks, I'm done for the season. Of course, with Penn State, there is no off-season. Something is bound to happen at some point to take me away from college basketball. For instance, Aaron Maybin plans on making his decision about leaving early for the pros in the next few days.

Maybin should stay in school and develop both his body and his skills some more.

PhillyNittanyLion: Oh, I'm not done. Just done for the season. I'll keep everyone updated on all the Penn State doings. And I'll continue to do Penn State stories from time to time. There are, of course, big off-season events like signing day, spring practice, etc. So please, stayed tuned. And I'd also liked to take this time to thank everyone for reading. Keep the comments coming. That is what this forum is for: reader input.

Given credit for all the hard work these athletes put in and the good season results and Coach Paterno's standing in history, being a 40 year Nittany Lion Club member, it's the same old story. A bunch of blowouts against inferior teams; marginal ugly wins or losses against credible ones, and a big build up to the national stage, whereby they proceed to play their worst game of the season. Given all the USC hype, mistakes, errors and turnovers lost this game three times over in the first half; the defensive secondary was non existent, and no one on the PSU staff had any answers. So we now fall back into the same old cliches for years to come; good luck recruiting any talent at all after that game. I can't remember a time they've had more talent on the field and still couldn't deliver. Sorry for spouting sour grapes, but I've seen it too many times. They better get the ducks off the schedule and start playing some credible teams again.
