Reports: Paterno returns home from hospital, showing improvements

Former Penn State coach Joe Paterno returned home from the hospital on Sunday, multiple media outlets reported Monday. Paterno was hospitalized Dec. 11 after falling and breaking his pelvis the day before at his State College home.

ESPN broke the news of his release Monday morning, reporting via an anonymous source that Paterno is resting at home and continues to rehabilitate from the injury and get lung cancer treatments.

The Associated Press reported Monday afternoon that Paterno is showing improvement after his cancer treatments and his tumor is showing substantial reduction. The report cites someone close to the Paterno family.

Paterno, who was fired by Penn State's Board of Trustees Nov. 9 in the aftermath of the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse scandal, turns 85 on Wednesday.
