Penn State-Temple second quarter update

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- That's more familiar.

1. Penn State looked more itself in the second quarter, scoring on four consecutive drives. Of course, there were still some mistakes, but the Lions imposed their will on Temple in the second stanza. Daryll Clark hit wide receiver Brett Brackett for the first score, a 20-yard TD strike. Running back Evan Royster scooted 23 yards for the second tally. Clark, on a keeper waltzed into the end zone. And Clark and wideout Graham Zug hooked up for a 17-yard touchdown to give Penn State a 28-0 lead.

2. With Adam DiMichele down, Temple has no shot. Backup Chester Stewart just can't throw a strike to save his life. After Travis Shelton took a kickoff back 74 yards, Chester overthrew a wide receiver on the next play and cornerback Tony Davis intercepted the attempt.

3. Pat Devlin saw his first action with 2:18 left before the half. The backup quarterback was inserted with the Lions ahead, 28-0. Young Devlin was erratic on his one drive, hitting three of six passes for 23 yards. He missed badly on three other attempts and took a sack when he should have thrown the ball away. Nevertheless, Penn State got a 44-yard field goal from Kevin Kelly out of the deal and the Lions took a 31-0 lead into the half. That exact score, by the way, was the exact number of last year's final between the two teams.
