Penn State dismissed Shawn Oakman from the football team for a violation of team rules, the school announced in an e-mail Tuesday night. No further details were given.

Oakman, a 6-foot-9, 270-pound defensive end from Penn Wood High School, redshirted his freshman year.

Attempts to reach Oakman were unsuccessful.

Sophomore defensive back Mike Wallace wrote in a text: “I’m sorry but that is family business.”
