Penn State recruit decommits from Class of 2016

Offensive tackle Christian Colon of Charlotte, N.C., has announced on Twitter that he has decommitted from Penn State.

Penn State has lost the first commitment to its freshman Class of 2016. Offensive tackle Christian Colon of Charlotte, N.C., announced Thursday night on Twitter that he would re-open his recruitment.

The 6-foot-3, 303-pound Colon, a three-star recruit who gave Penn State coach James Franklin an oral commitment on June 25, said in a statement that his decommitment came "after much thought and careful consideration."

"I am extremely appreciative for the opportunity to be a part of a one of a kind family, The Nittany Lions," he said. "With that being said … I have decided to reopen my recruitment. I would like to thank PSU once again but I have to do what is in the best interest of my family and I."

Some recruiting services said Colon had planned to enroll at Penn State in January, and that he tweeted his excitement about attending next month's Michigan game at Beaver Stadium.

Colon's change of heart means Penn State now has 19 commitments for 2016. The Nittany Lions are ranked fourth in the nation in recruiting by Scout, 247Sports and ESPN.com.
