Penn State receives votes in both polls
After an unimpressive win at Indiana (1-4) on Saturday, Penn State (4-1) still received 37 votes in the USA TODAY coaches poll that was released on Sunday. The Nittany Lions got nine votes - the same number as last week - in the AP poll.
After an unimpressive win at Indiana on Saturday, Penn State (4-1) remained unranked but still received 37 votes in the USA TODAY coaches poll that was released on Sunday. The Nittany Lions garnered the fifth-most votes for a team outside the Top 25, meaning they are essentially ranked 30th in the nation, according to USA TODAY.
They got nine votes - the same number as last week - in the AP poll.
The Lions squeaked out a 16-10 win in their Big Ten opener against the Hoosiers (1-4) on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
Penn State was ranked in both polls prior to its 27-11 home loss to Alabama, which is No. 2 in both polls, on Sept. 10. It hosts Iowa (3-1) in its Big Ten home opener on Saturday at Beaver Stadium. The Hawkeyes, who had an off-day on Saturday, received five votes in the USA TODAY poll but none in the AP poll. Iowa has beaten Penn State three straight years and in eight of the teams' last nine meetings.
