This may be a Penn State football blog, but that doesn't mean the basketball team can't receive some occassional love. It is hoops season, after all, and the team is suddenly worthy of some attention. With Wednesday's road win at No. 18 Illinois, the Lions significantly upped their chances of snagging an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

There's still work to do, but Penn State is on track to reach the Big Dance for the first time in eight years. What that would mean for the program overall cannot be underestimated. Here's a story in this morning's paper that takes a closer look at the Lions' recent struggles and coach Ed DeChellis' quest to turn things around in State College.

Andrew Ott (Germantown Academy, Villanova transfer) and Jermaine Marshall (Red Land High School) are set to suit up for the Nittany Lions next season. Don't know what they will contribute.

Even though PSU will most likely be crushed in the first round, it would be nice for them to get in

This program is on its way - 1st wins over Mich St and now their 2nd win last night over Ill- Jamelle Cornley and Andrew Jones are the real deal. If the Inq would cover PSU more (largest alumni in Philly area)- they would sell more papers and maybe not be going out of business.

Way to stay on top of this blog, Jeff. Your analysis is really insightful. Are you still preparing your story on the USC-Penn State Rose Bowl matchup???
