On Friday, Golden signed a four-year contract extension with Miami that runs through the 2019 season. A former Penn State player and assistant coach, Golden is in his first season coaching the Hurricanes, who entered Friday with a 6-5 record. Golden was the head coach at Temple from 2006-2010.

Many had pegged Golden as a potential candidate for the Penn State job. He played tight end for former coach Joe Paterno from 1989-91 and coached linebackers in 2000. After Friday, Golden's name can be crossed off the list.

"My family loves it in South Florida, we have embraced the community and we could not be more excited about the future of the Miami Hurricanes football team," Golden said in a statement. "I can't thank President Shalala and Shawn Eichorst enough for their support and commitment to our student-athletes and staff. We are ready to hit the recruiting road and begin our preparations for the 2012 season."
