Let it Snow. Again

Looking back on a record snowy winter

Forecasters are saying snow coming tomorrow, five days after spring arrived.

It will be the 15th day this winter with at least 1 inch of snow. We tied a record (for second most) at 14 days with the winter of 1898-99.

Philadelphia has been keeping weather records a long time, but there is one statistic they didn't keep - almost all of it fell on either on my days off, while working nights, on furlough or vacation, or working inside filling in as an editor.  So this was one winter I didn't shoot much of the dreaded newspaper "weather art."

I got to thinking about that while cleaning out my laptop this past week (on vacation, while No. 14 hit).  I only "covered" two of the fourteen "storms."  In looking back at my snow photos, I can see I did shoot more personal photos in the snow than I do on my days off in other kinds of weather. I actually went out walking in the fresh snow one night, taking snapshots with my iPhone just for fun. Don't think I ever did that when it was pouring - or 90 degrees.

Those were all shot "on the job." Below are my "just for fun" photos:
