Bill Iezzi: Pride of Pennsauken Basketball

I'd heard about how good a basketball player Courtney Edmonds is, so I went to see her and her Pennsauken teammates play Cherry Hill West yesterday (Feb. 10).

I saw flashes of brilliance from the senior forward in her passing and running and aggressive style of defense. However, West's box-and-one defense, designed to slow down the Philadelphia transfer student, kept her from breaking out...until the last quarter.

That's when Edmonds broke loose and scored off two steals on coast-to-coast layups and tallied seven of her 16 points to lead the Indians to a 50-34 win.

Before the game, Pennsauken coach Laura Bell said Edmonds was about 60 points away from breaking the school's scoring record of 420 points.

Stay tuned.
