The Great Jimmy Dugan

A lot's been written, a lot's been said.

But on this Indian Summer morning, when we're nursing some wounds, and looking to winter sports, (not to mention fall ones) we leave it to the great Jimmy Dugan to show the way ...

Just a brilliant post, Dan. (Damn, wish I'd thought of it.)

And of course you --and Jimmy Dugan-- are right.

But what about whining?

As Jimmy also said (paraphrasing): Of course baseball is hard. The hard is what makes it great.

Nursing wounds?

From an unapologetic Red Sox fan?

The Phils could have used Dottie Hinson and Marla Hooch.

Also good advice for everyone now that the Phillies have lost is another line from that movie: "Avoid the clap."

will: those red sox are in the junior circuit, remember? plenty of room over 20 years to have found a national league team to fret over. and don't be opening the door on home teams, you know???

Seriously, I can't imagine anyone didn't see the Phils' loss coming. What happened the last time the Flyers made the Finals? SWEPT. What happened the last time the Eagles went to the Super Bowl? PIMP-SLAPPED!

Look, we just don't win championships here. It's OK. We don't need them.

CMom: Don't need them? This city needs a championship worse than ... Arizona ... or Denver. I've got socks older than the Diamondbacks.
It'll be snowing in Denver before the NLCS is over.

Championship? Looks like another year. At least.

Ugh. Now, Charlie's back.

Make that 2 years, CMom.
