The closer he gets?

Chris Christie's approval ratings plunge

No wonder Chris Christie keeps insisting he's not a candidate for President.

In the national Republican universe, where flickering starlets like Michele Bachmann provide but a dim array of hope for 2012, the New Jersey governor's supernova still blazes.

But Christie's luster is fading closer to home; his approval rating among New Jerseyans has plunged 13 percent since January.

Only 43 percent of state residents think Christie is doing a good job; 53 percent say he isn't.

Polls fluctuate, of course, and poll results are readily spin-able.

So here's mine: The numbers suggest traction for a message (or "narrative," or "meme") to counter the slick triumphalism of those state GOP "New Jersey comeback" commercials.

Can the divided, dispirited Democrats of New Jersey figure out a way to say and do this?

Look for more poll results.

In November.
