Your guide to getting around during the Democratic National Convention

The latest on how the Democratic National Convention will affect transportation in and around Philadelphia.

Residents and visitors alike should be prepared for some road closures, traffic restrictions and busy streets during the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

Here's what you need to know about how transportation in the region will be affected by the July 25-28 event at the Wells Fargo Center.

Driving in the city: Extended, widespread street closures are not expected beyond the Stadium District. Traffic restrictions are expected in the stadium area. Some brief, temporary closures are likely elsewhere due to motorcades or protests.

Driving near the Wells Fargo Center: Streets immediately around the Wells Fargo Center will be closed or open to authorized vehicles only. A map from the Secret Service is available here.

From noon on July 23 until the evening of July 29, street closures include: Broad Street from Packer Avenue to the Navy Yard, Pattison Avenue from 7th Street to FDR Park, Terminal Avenue from Broad Street to 11th Street, and 11th Street from Hartranft Street to Terminal Avenue.

Streets that will only be open to authorized vehicles are: Pattison Avenue from 20th Street to FDR Park, Hartranft Street from Broad Street to Darien Street, Darien Street from Packer Avenue to Lurie Way, and 10th Street south of Packer Avenue. (Read more: Convention security details announced)

Driving on Interstate 95: The highway will be open to passenger vehicles, but vehicles weighing more than five tons will be detoured off the interstate between Exit 13 and Exit 22. Some ramp closures at Exit 17 for Broad Street are also planned. There are also lane closures on the interstate to aid police enforcement efforts. Parking: Parking will not be permitted in Broad Street's median between Washington and Packer Avenues from July 24 to 29. Curbside parking will still be permitted. Additional temporary parking limitations are possible, but no other widespread restrictions are planned.

Taking SEPTA: Some bus routes will face detours.

Getting around FDR Park: FDR Park in South Philadelphia will have six permitted "demonstration zones," in addition to water stations and misting tents for protesters. There will also be some road closures in the area. A map of the site is available here. (Read more: City releases map for demonstrations in FDR Park)

Walking in Center City: Pedestrians should have a somewhat easier time getting around the city on foot. The city will require construction sites to be cleaned and sidewalks to be open. Additionally, the Center City District plans to add more than 200 signs to help visitors navigate. (Read more: City sprucing up ahead of convention)

Staying updated: The city says traffic information, including protests that deviate from their planned routes, will be provided via social media and people can follow @PhiladelphiaGov and @PhillyPolice for updates. PennDOT has created a website, 511pa.com/DNC, to provide information for people traveling to and around Philadelphia for the convention.
