Tale of the tape: How AVI affects Nutter's staff

POSTED: Friday, February 15, 2013, 5:06 PM

Mayor Nutter will pay $460 less in yearly taxes if his Actual Value Initiative moves forward with a 1.25 percent rate. He says he will donate that figure to city schools.

In addition to his own new assessment, Nutter released the new property valuations (PDF) and tax bills for his executive team. While many face only small increases, others are not so lucky.

Angela Dowd-Burton, executive director of Philadelphia’s Office of Economic Opportunity, faces the steepest jump  – an additional $5,540 yearly.

City Finance Director Rob Dubow, on the other hand, saves money. His 2014 assessment, if AVI passes, will lower his tax bill by $2,710.

The 'shell game' continues. Of course this will be a "temporary" tax increase. Sound familiar?

Same corrupt system. SOme neighborhoods have AVI's that are above what they would be able to sell their house for while others have AVI's that are still way light compared to sales numbers. How was that decided? The same way the other corrupt system had winners and losers...corruption. I have a unique perspective because I own properties in 4 different neighborhoods so I have seen all of my AVI's and it is obvious that the 'hoods with more council clout got low AVI's while the other with less clout got jackhammered. I have one of each. A property in a hot neighborhood that is having a 2.4x Tax Hike(and is still way below market), another i a previously hot neighborhood where my neighbors identical house sold for 30k less than my AVI(as did the others in the last 2 years that are identical units), and one in an expensive location that has been re-assessed so many times they should be giving me money back for so grossly over paying for the last 8 years not to mention permanent relief(it went down ever so slightly) Still the same back room dealing though.

UncleStosh ... I guess it depends on the neighborhood and which council member? Got a friend who's a homeowner, has a councilperson living about 2 blocks away. My friend got nailed with as far as we can tell a huge OVER-assessment. There's no way they can sell for what AVI's saying, none. But the property taxes are going to double next year. On top of going up some this year, on top of going up the last 3 years.

Where is the link of slumlords who charge thousands in rent per month for overstuffed rowhomes but pay $20 bucks a month for real estate taxes? What, no ghetto slum trafficking profile? No Philadelphia flippers out their cashing in on stupidly cheap real estate and equally stupid low real estate taxes? The slumlords who own hundreds of homes, don't pay taxes and when they do, one twin in the Lawndale pays as much as 10 in Strawberry Mansion.

Truly sad that once again the taxpayers will foot the bill for the misappropriation of funds in our city goverment. Wonder how many salaries are being paid to people who really have no function. And what am I getting for my taxdollars other than trash removal? The streets are filthy, the crime is out of control and the drugs are outrageous. I recently gave a friend advice who was thinking of moving back to the city...DON'T DO IT. I cannot wait until the time is right and I'm able to flee. I was born and raised here and never thought I'd leave but at my first opportunity I'm going.

Such are the errors which of progressive liberal corruptocrats. The age of error must end. It simply must! God bless the Tea Party!

I wondered why my response did not immediately appear so I began experimenting with the blog's parser. Once I left out the word "blacktivist", my response immediately posted.
