Who's headed to the political conventions from Philly?

A vote's a powerful thing. It can send someone to the White House and some local Philadelphians to the biggest political parties of the year.

On Primary Day April 26 Pennsylvanians vote for a host of offices along with the delegates who they want to send to the Republican and Democratic National conventions. This year's ballot includes many recognizable names.

Sherrie Cohen, former candidate for City Council is committed to Bernie Sanders as is state Rep. Mark B. Cohen and Lou Agre, a ward leader in Manayunk and Roxborough.

In Pennsylvania, Democratic candidates commit to a candidate, which is noted on the ballot. Republicans need not commit.

Republican delegate candidates include past Montgomery County Commissioner Tom Ellis and Christopher Vogler, a ward leader in the Northeast. Should Cleveland see a brokered Convention, Pennsylvania's 54 unbound delegates could have a real say in who gets elected.

Becoming a delegate is relatively simple. Candidates pay a $25 fee and get 250 petition signatures. Democrats also need the approval of the candidate who they are supporting.

Some very complex math goes into the process of allocating delegates which you can delve into on your lunch break here.

For Democrats, there are also unelected bonus delegates and Super delegates, who include 13 state members of the Democratic National Committee; Gov. Tom Wolf; U.S Sen. Bob Casey, and the state's five Democratic members of the U.S. House. Democrats also send a specific number of men and women, hence the gender distinctions on the ballot.
