Slasher strikes Mayor's, Controller's cars at City Hall

POSTED: Monday, August 16, 2010, 9:01 PM

A vandal slashed tires on four city cars early Monday, including one used for the Mayor and two belonging to the police officers on his personal protection detail.

Nutter spokesman Doug Oliver said the vandal, who also stuck a pool car used by the City Controller, apparently was not targeting Mayor Nutter. The black SUV Nutter uses most was parked nearby and was left untouched.

“It appears to have been random,” Oliver said. The incident happened around 5 a.m., he said.

The front left tire on the Mayor’s 2008 Chevrolet Impala was damaged, along with two tires each on the personal vehicles of the police officers, said Oliver, who declined to identify the officers’ cars for security reasons.

The three vehicles were parked on the apron at City Hall’s Northeast corner, their usual space, and are not currently in use as Nutter is on vacation. The controller’s hybrid Ford Escape was parked outside the Municipal Services Building at 15th and JFK Boulevard. It had one tire slashed.

@FJG JR Yes but the problem is, we need a whole new government not new politicians who will turn sour because thats what they all do. No. We need NEW government with Council having same re-election rules as mayor, governor and president. Get rid of "recess". They arent kids anymore. Work 8 hours a day like everyone else. 2 terms max. Same with ANY top managerial positions. This way nobody can plant their roots with family and friends in various supporting positions. As for the lame ducks, shows progress or lose pension. Make it tough for them to milk the city dry. We need REVOLUTION!!

If you or I parked there (it is illegal)we would have been towed...if he is on vacation, why is his car parked there? I guess the City will now have to buy HIM and his "bodyguards" new tires....take the money from the proceeds from D.R.O.P.......oops, there are no proceeds, only costs

I agree with mattgordonmd. It's obnoxious but unsurprising that the mayor parks for free in an ultraconvenient manner that would get you or me towed. Have the decency not to abuse the privilege by leaving them there during a week-long vacation. Sheesh!

The mayoral executive vehicles should be locked inside some city garage when not in use.

If you catch the guy, bring him inside City Hall and have him work on the budget.

I'm sure we, the taxpayers, will end up paying for that in one way or another.

Saving "nickels" on an expense (the unions) that eats up over half of the city's budget isn't nearly enough. Cut more fat from the workforce and bring their benefits in line with what 90% of city residents get. As for the politicians, their expenses are a mere drop in the bucket compared to the unions, but I refuse to continue subsidizing their lazy, lavish lifestyles with my money. Vote the bums out, I say.

DoomsdayCritic, while your close, that's not the way it will start. It must start at the polls in Nov. then really attack in the Spring. Throw Brady's ballott endorsements in the refuse can, when they (tell) hand it to you. More harm can be done by that action than any car tire slashing. Are you with me?

Pat c, That driver or officer who should have been there - according to you - would have been at the car a very long time - "The three vehicles ... are not currently in use as Nutter is on vacation".

I don't park on the sidewalk of the building I work in. How come everyone in the city has to pay for their own parking except the Privileged Ruling Class - including the House of Lords better known as City Council?

Where was everyone at? The driver or one of the officers protecting the Mayor should have been at the car. Guess they were at the doughnut shop while the Mayor was doing what ever he does.
