Former city transportation staffer eyeing Council run

Andrew Stober, who recently stepped down as Chief of Staff in the Mayor’s Office of Transportation and Utilities, is eying the office

It looks like a former top transportation staffer is running for City Council as an Independent.

Andrew Stober, who recently stepped down as Chief of Staff in the Mayor's Office of Transportation and Utilities, is eyeing the office, PlanPhilly first reported. He's made mention on Twitter of the run with nods to tweets about his candidacy and the pretty obvious hashtag #Stober2015.

Stober worked in the Philadelphia office for four years. Before that he had a post at the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Running as in Independent means Stober would be vying for the two Council at-large seats reserved for the minority party. The city's charter says no more than five of the seven at-large seats can be held by the majority party, currently the Democrats. The two minority seats have typically gone to Republicans but nothing prevents an Independent candidate from running.

The five Republicans on the ballot are incumbent Councilmen Dennis O'Brien and David Oh and non-incumbents, Dan Tinney, Terry Tracy and Al Taubenberger.
