City Council holding hearings on heroin and opioid abuse

City Council this week hosted the first in a series of community meetings on heroin and opioid abuse in Philadelphia, part of an effort to create a strategy for addressing the crisis.

The meetings are being held in the lead up to a May 20 City Council hearing. Council has declared 2016 "The Year to Combat the Heroin Abuse Epidemic in Philadelphia."

Councilman David Oh, who called for hearings on the topic, said in a press release that the community meetings are meant to gain insight from those struggling with drug abuse ahead of the May hearing.

There are six remaining community meetings, which all will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Monday: Northeast Philadelphia (Kleinlife, 10100 Jamison Ave)
