Tommy Hilfiger will be in town next Tuesday

All-American designer Tommy Hilfiger will be in town next Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Preppy people of Philadelphia, pay attention: Tommy Hilfiger will be in town next Tuesday, Oct. 11.

The designer will pay a visit to Philadelphia University, and like any good mentor who has spent 25 years overseeing an iconic all-American brand, Hilfiger intends to meet with impressionable, young, fashion students.

Tommy will first stop into several senior fashion design classes to speak with aspiring designers in a more intimate setting. However, the masses will have a chance to hear his story and thoughts on the fashion industry when he addresses the entire campus later that day. The discussion will be modeled after "Inside the Actor's Studio" so we hope audience members are brainstorming thoughtful questions.

Here are a few highlights from the self-taught designer's career: Hilfiger founded his company in 1984, and over the next decade, his brand became almost synonymous with preppy sportswear style. In 1995, he was honored as Menswear Designer of the Year by the CFDA. In 2008, he was listed by Women's Wear Daily as #1 Designer. Earlier this year, he received Philadelphia University's 2011 Spirit of Design Award. In addition to his professional achievements, the Tommy Hilfiger brand has also garnered a loyal following, including stars like Carmelo Anthony, Abbie Cornish and Molly Sims, who all sat front row at his latest show.

Joining Tommy on Tuesday will be Allen Sirkin, president and chief operating officer of Phillips-Van Heusen Corp., the parent company of Tommy Hilfiger since 2010. Phillips-Van Heusen also owns Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, DKNY and Kenneth Cole. Furthermore, Sirken is a Philadelphia University alumnus and a member of the Board of Trustees.
