Soapbox Monday: Is your electricity green?

Ever since the beginning of the year, electric customers in southeastern Pennsylvania _ in PECO territory _ have been able to choose a new supplier. For the first time, they could choose a cheaper alternative. Or a greener alternative.

Ever since the beginning of the year, electric customers in southeastern Pennsylvania _ in PECO territory _ have been able to choose a new supplier.  For the first time, they could choose a cheaper alternative. Or a greener alternative.

In this morning's GreenSpace column, I wrote about how complicated and time-consuming it seems. I fessed up that I hadn't switched yet.

I don't mind spending a little more. But it seems dauntingly complicated. If I wanted to make a research project out of something, it wouldn't be electricity.

A PennFuturechart of green electricity options has great information and can help, but what occurred to me is that this is the kind of thing a group of neighbors or friends could do. Assign a company to each person to check out, then report back and decide.

I decided that the comment section at the end of this blog post could constitute a community, too. Please comment below and let others know what you're doing about your electric service.
