Rookie defenseman Gustafsson re-called

LOS ANGELES -- The Flyers have re-called undrafted rookie defenseman Erik Gustafsson today from the Adirondack Phantoms, the Daily News has learned.

Veteran defenseman Kimmo Timonen was injured in Tuesday night's 6-2 loss at Vancouver. The Flyers have yet to release any information about Timonen's injury or his status for Thursday night's game here in Los Angeles.

Timonen remained on the trip with the Flyers, which is probably a good sign. It is possible that Gustafsson is here just as a precaution.

Gustafsson, a smallish but smart and speedy defenseman, leads the Phantoms in scoring with 4 goals and 22 assists for 26 points in 33 games. Gustafsson, 22, who hails from Sweden, left Northern Michigan University after three seasons. He played in 6 of the Flyers' 8 preseason games, collected 1 assist, and didn't look out of place.

Gustafsson will meet the Flyers today in Los Angeles. The Flyers play the Kings on Thursday night at Staples Center.
