NHL investigating FSN Pittsburgh
The NHL has launched an investigation into FSN Pittsburgh's production of last Thursday's Flyers/Penguins game at Mellon Arena, the Daily News has learned.
NHL investigating FSN Pittsburgh
The NHL is investigating Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh for not sending all available camera angles to league headquarters in Toronto for Simon Gagne’s apparent goal that was under review against the Penguins last Thursday, league spokesman Gary Meagher confirmed to the Daily News.
FSN Pittsburgh, who had the game’s only video feed, sent all of the camera angles of the replay except the one that clearly showed the puck over the goal line.
Comcast SportsNet elected to not use their own video feed during the game, one CSN employee said on Monday. CSN would have been able to send their own replays to the NHL's War Room in Toronto if they had used their own feed.
"Hockey Operations did not have a definitive replay that showed the puck in the net - and weren't aware that one existed - until after they made their ruling," said John Dellapina, another NHL spokesman. "Once the puck dropped, their ruling became permanent."
Video of the angle in question is shown below.
It is not yet clear whether FSN Pittsburgh purposely excluded the angle or it was an unintentional oversight, though one Penguins announcer can be heard saying “we saved that one” on the broadcast.
A message left for FSN Pittsburgh after business hours on Monday has not yet been returned.
The play was ruled no-goal by officials for “inconclusive evidence."
The non-goal, which wound up not impacting the 7-4 final score, would have given the Flyers a 6-3 lead heading into the second intermission. Coincidentally, the game was the second most watched Penguins regular season telecast ever.
The NHL has given no indication as to length of the investigation or what penalties may come of it.
Said Meagher: "It's a matter between the League, the Penguins and FSN that will be handled internally."
What Melyssa said! uncle meat
the NHL is such a mickey mouse league GoPhils09
I believe it is a big deal. It speaks to the integrity of the FSN Pittsburgh crew & what they would do to help the Pens win. How many times has it happened before that weren't caught? Just another reason to hate the Pens!!! philadavephia
At the very least Gags should get credit on his stats. for another goal, just sayin'... DJ
The Pens and the NHL are conspiring to get the Pens and the Caps both winning, so the investigation will turn up nothing, absolutely nothing. They will conclude, while rolling their eyes on the press statement, that it was an un-intentional video feed mistake. BS, everybody knows the games are thrown/influenced every day by the refs and the league. NickFotiu4HOF- PSU, The TEAM hired the network. Ie: the cameramen, announcers and jerk wads that run the video equipment. They in essence are employees of the Puns. Ergo, the employer must be held responsible for the actions of its employees. As I wrote earlier, a fitting PUNishment should be similar to that of FSU. That is, to forfeit an arbitrary number of games..say 20 or 25. They should also be required to forfeit the cup. And finally, since this is a men's league. Cindy should have to drop his pants at center ice and prove he has a pair. dedhed
of course "chocomog" must be a Pens fan, one would think. dwell on it for sure because if we would have lost the game because of that goal that we didnt get credit for. It is so sad how everyone watching the game against Flyers/Pens saw so many penalties that were not called. The refs should be fined for everytime they don't call penalties that should be called and maybe then there will be some kind of fareness az522
knew that was a goal KevinRx

I have a feeling if Stephane Auger gets fired for what he did in Vancouver he is going to spill all of the secrets of the league. SuPrimeau

A 100k fine for the Pens might make sure they don't "forget" to send all the vids next time. bcsk
