Flyers goaltender Michael Leighton was named the NHL’s second star among their ‘Three Stars’ for the week ending Feb. 14.

Leighton posted a 4-0-0 record and carried the Flyers to home-and-home sweeps against New Jersey and Montreal last week. He had a 1.98 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage in those four games, stopping 98 shots in all.

Leighton has a 12-3-1 record for the Flyers since being claimed off waivers from Carolina on Dec. 17.

Coincidentally, Dallas goaltender Marty Turco – who has been connected to the Flyers in recent trade rumors – was named the NHL’s third star. Tampa Bay’s Steven Stamkos grabbed first star honors.

Chris Pronger (3rd star, week of Nov. 9) is the only other Flyer to be named one of the NHL’s Three Stars of the week this season. James van Riemsdyk was the NHL’s Rookie of the Month for December.

I know it's important to have a big name goalie going into the playoffs, but teams do go to and win the Cup with goalies that come from out of nowhere. There is a confidence and chemistry that develops between a team and it's goaltender sometimes that just results in wins. The Flyers got that with Leighton right now and I hope they stick with him.

"CHEMISTRY" The Flyers have it with Leighton, why mess with it? Let it build and see where it goes, they sat him down once and he came back and jumped in where he left off, they shouldn't do it again unless for some reason he regresses. Follow the wave, it may leed deep in the playoffs before it hits the beach! Just sayin'...

it would be a disgrace to not keep starting Leighton. He's played better than just about any other goalie in the league during his time w/ the Flyers. We should sign him next year and look for another capable goalie in the offseason

Here we go again - McMahon vs. Cunningham , Garcia vs. McNabb, Glanville vs. Dykstra now Leighton vs Emery. There's a pattern here, but that's another talk at another time. Here's the deal: Leighton has played very, very well - even great at times. However, everyone talks about how Leighton outplayed Broduer. They forget, Emery outdueled Marty early in the season. Leighton deserves to play as long as he is hot. Emery played very well before he got hurt. And for all you idiots complaining about discipline problems and a head case, give it a rest. By all accounts, he's been a model citizen in Philadelphia. Give Emery a chance to heal, give him about 5-6 games in Andirondak in playing shape, then see what he has in the NHL. Bottom line, is Leighton good enough to carry a team through the playoffs? I think not. When healthy, Emery is a better goalie and playoff-tested and gives the Flyers a better chance of getting through a Pittsburgh or Washington playoff series.
