Laviolette favorite to be first fired

In case you were wondering, Philadelphia's longest-tenured coach is Vegas' odds-on favorite to be the first NHL coach fired this season.

Flyers chairman Ed Snider said last month that Peter Laviolette is not on the hot seat, but the team's history firing coaches, coupled with a shaky preseason, has the public thinking otherwise.

"Last year was an anomaly," Snider said on Sept. 13. "He's been a very good coach for us. He's been a good coach in this league and we're just thrilled to have him."

Laviolette, 48, is 145-95-29 (.539) since joining the Flyers in Dec. 2009. He is the fourth longest-tenured coach in Flyers history and quickly moving up the leaderboard.

Laviolette is the Flyers' ninth coach since 1998. The Flyers missed the playoffs last spring for just the ninth time in 46 seasons.

By the way: if Laviolette were to be fired at any point, Chip Kelly would be Philadelphia's new longest-tenured coach, followed by Brett Brown and Ryne Sandberg.
