James van Riemsdyk out with concussion
James van Riemsdyk will not be on the ice in Nashville tonight when the Flyers take on the Predators.
In fact, van Riemsdyk won't be on the ice at all for a while.
On Saturday, Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren released a statement saying that JVR will be out indefinitely with a concussion.
According to Holmgren, Van Riemsdyk first reported not feeling like himself yesterday. Holmgren said JVR was hit in the head in each of the last two games.
Van Riemsdyk, 22, is the fourth Flyer to be diagnosed with a concussion this season, joining Chris Pronger, Claude Giroux and Brayden Schenn.
This is also the latest in a series of injuries this season for Van Riemsdyk, including a muscular tear in his abdominal region, a chronic hip injury that could require surgery in the offseason and a brief knee problem.
Van Riemsdyk's name swirled in trade rumors this week, but it's safe to say that he's not going anywhere for a while now.
He's put together a disappointing season, with 11 goals and 11 assists in 37 games, after signing a 6-year, $25.5 million deal last summer.
Zac Rinaldo will likely replace JVR in the lineup. Both Rinaldo and Jody Shelley have been healthy scratches in each of the last two games.
Van Rimesdyk has remained with the team in Nashville and will return to Philly with the Flyers late tonight.

Could this be the hit the concussed van Riemsdyk? It took place last Saturday against the Ottawa Senators. Although the announcers suggest that JVR was taking a dive on this hit by Bobby Butler, he certainly looks shaken up.
Alright, my bad. You did mention health. Not everyone who is fat is that way because of self control issues. Everyone has their own issues and problems and deals with stressors in their life differently. Do you ridicule every smoker? Every drinker? What about those who curse or those who thank or blame god for every event in their life? You need to be more tolerant of people. srf466
Who should replace JVR? Easy. Jody Shelley. Bring back old time hockey. This removing of the heavywheights is killing the game. Cheap shots are at an all time high. Ferrell31- i defense of the ottawa homers, it sure looks divey in slow motion. I was at the game, and in person everyone was shocked that the penalty was for too many men and not for the hit. it was just another in a string of terrible officiating decisions. Pelti
How bad can it be? They are letting him fly. All BS unless he has a virus!! EDDYEDEAGLES

Oh JVR,,the poor thing. If he was scoring goals he would be playing in the next game.Everytime he is not playing well he gets hurt..Geeze what a coincidence. He is a baby,,send him back to Cherry Hill so he can work in Hoagie Shack on Rt 70 because seriously thats what he wants to do..;)~ TheRod
I knew there had to be something wrong. Turns out there are numerous injuries he's been trying to play through. When 100% James will be a stellar player for this team. Don't give up on him. dogman5
PUSSIFICATION OF AMERICA. There is not any type of consensus about the long term effects of concussions. Mostly all of this alarmist BS is based on the fact that Andre Waters killed himself. That is hardly scientific. Furthermore, we are now calling any type of head contact a concussion -- Pronger getting poked in teh eye with a stick, Giroux getting a glancing blow to the back of the head, now JVR's Phantom Concussion Hit.... Stop buying all this company BS. Its fine to err on the side of caution, but stop making up all these concussion diagnoses when its clear it wasn't even hard enough to kill a fly.
The NHL is not responsible at all. No one is forcing these guys to play hockey, it is their choice, and they are being paid MILLIONS of dollars to do it. It is Free Market Economics, supply and demand, and risk-reward. Sure, there is a chance u might get concussed....there is also a chance you might make millions of dollars and live comfortably and happily the rest of your life. Obviously Professional Athletes are adults, and are fully capable of making the decision to take on that risk by themselves. Its not like they are playing on ice made with asbestos. they are playing hockey, hits and injuries are part of the game. If a guy gets a consussion and doesn't want to play, thats his prerogative. No one is forcing him to play. DOn't see how there is any liability on the NHL's part. ARe they negligent for not preventing concussions? Thats ridiculous, it is completely unrealistic to think you can control the rate of conussions in a game like hockey without drastically affecting the way the game is played. Personally, I don't feel like having hockey turn into FIFA soccer, with phantom penalty calls and players taking dives every 2 seconds. But obviously, its more importnatn to toe the line and buy whatever load of garbage the team ownership throws out there, to prove that you are a true fan. KingOfPhilly
Let talk about Ilya Bryzgalov i want to see Bryzgalov to setp it up

The announcer making the embellishment comment is none other then
Denis Potvin former Islander and also color guy for the Panthers.
After the Penguins crew, these guys are ranking right up there has a
bunch of homers...believe me. mean mean pride, mean mean pride.
If he has all the surgeries he needs it is unlikely he would play again this season. Hopefully he recovers quickly and skates till the end of Flyers season, then has surgery. NYPHILLYPHAN
He doesn't feel like himself? Yeah he feels like a Maple Leaf. specterlaw
Trade this kid...Couts is the best Flyer young player (besides Giroux) and he needs more ice time. Move Schenn to wing, promote Couts to 3rd line center. JVR and Bourdon (or Gus) for L. Schenn and Steckel. Steckel is a beast and perfect for our 4th line center. Our lines are:
Harts-Giroux-Jagr
Voracek-Briere-Read
Schenn-Couts-Simmonds
Talbot-Steckel-Zoln
Kimmo-Coburn
Schenn-Carle
Mez-Bourdon or Gus
Simply put, JVR is expendable with Couturier being an absolute stud. Schenn is expendable too if we don't want to trade JVR. Either one for a d-man not named Suter. Then, after the season we sign Suter...only wrinkle is that Suter probably doesn't make it past the trade deadline.
