Flyers make minor league deal

POSTED: Monday, February 28, 2011, 3:13 PM

VOORHEES, N.J. -- After hunkering down in his office at the Flyers Skate Zone with head coach Peter Laviolette for the last hour of the NHL’s trade deadline, general manager Paul Holmgren has come up for the air.

There is one new Flyer to report.

The Flyers confirmed just after 3 p.m. that they did not make any major league moves before the NHL's trade deadline, though they made a minor league deal in shipping Phantom Greg Moore and prospect Michael Chaput to Columbus in exchange for forward Tom Sestito.

Sestito, 23, has played 9 games with the Blue Jackets this season. He is a native of Rome, N.Y. He will report to Adirondack to play for the Phantoms.

As a whole, the trade deadline was largely quiet, as expected, because of the flurry of activity in the weeks leading up to the deadline.

The Flyers were reportedly interested in both Marty Reasoner (Florida) and Chuck Kobasew (Minnesota), though both remained with their expected teams. They will finished the season with approximately $1.9 million in acquisition space.

The big winner of the deadline - even though it was first falsely reported on Twitter by bogus accounts - was the Los Angeles Kings picking up Dustin Penner from Edmonton for Colton Teubert and two high-round draft picks. Penner is a player that can immediately transform the Kings.

Paul Holmgren will address the media at 3:30 pm.

Niemi is a #1 goalie dope...check his stats. Stop that argument already...For the last time, goalies need to steal games in the playoffs 1-0 and 2-1. We haven't had that all year. Hopefully they catch fire, but the D has to play better.

Not really suprised Homer didn't make any major moves.Bottom line we need our stellar team to play like they can in the playoffs.Hopefully Bob plays well under pressure. Then again i wouldn't be suprised if we saw both of our somtimes questionable #1's this postseason.

No Vokun equals no cup. Should have parted with someone. Wait till that first "softie" goes in. I want a goalie that can stop the puck, not a whole F..ing team that has to cover the goalies a.. every second. I barfed on my desk at 3:01.
