Crosby unapologetic for slashes

For a little more than a month, Penguins captain Sidney Crosby - like most locked-out NHL players not already overseas - has been twirling around the rinks of suburban Pittsburgh waiting for a labor resolution.

With that surplus of energy comes a little boredom - and perhaps bravado.

Crosby, in a wide-ranging interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, addressed Claude Giroux’s claim that he broke both of Giroux’s wrists during the Flyers’ epic first round series against the Penguins.

“I don’t try to go after his wrists, but if I caught it, I’m not sorry for it,” Crosby said. “I really like to win the face-off. I think it’s hilarious that I hear that stuff from Philly. It’s comedy to me, to be honest with you. They’re probably involved in that stuff more than any team in the league and they’re the ones always talking about it.

“I guess I’m not apologetic. I was trying to win a face-off and if I caught his wrist, then I caught his wrist. He seemed to play okay so I couldn’t have hurt him that bad.”

Giroux told the Timmins (Ontario) Press this summer that Crosby would “hack me across the wrists instead of going for the puck when it was dropped.”

Giroux had offseason surgery on both wrists. After netting 6 goals and 8 assists in the 6-game series against Pittsburgh, Giroux was limited to 2 goals and 1 assist in 4 games in the following series against New Jersey. Giroux was suspended for the Flyers’ season-eliminating game against the Devils.

He has since recovered and has been tearing up the DEL (German Elite League) for Eisbaren Berlin with teammate Danny Briere

With at least some semblance of progress having been made in the NHL labor negotiations in the last 48 hours, this banter should whet your appetite for hockey. Remember how great that series was?

For now, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

let's not act like crosby is the 1st or last guy to ever slash a guy on a faceoff. it's not dirty, it's smart if you can get away with it. i'm actually a little surprised at giroux's comments. slashing like that is part of the game. deal with it. but the comments about running crosby and ending his career are just stupid. fact is, if crosby played here, everyone would love him. he's 1 of the best players in the world, if not THE best. yeah, he's a whiner, but i'd take him on my team every day and twice on sundays.

I imagine your also a Howard defender too Strangler? Even Crosby's own teammates don't like the guy! Best player in the league?? You must be brainwashed by daddy Mario.

this guy is a dirty spoiled princess. and the NHL would be better off in the long run if he got hurt and never played ever again.

Boston Strangler- I agree with everything you said except for the party about how if Crosby played here "everyone" would love him. I admit, there are certain players around this league that we love to hate because of how they played against us. Prime example is Scott Stevens. I HATED that guy, but if he had played for the Flyers, yes I would have loved him. People don't hate Crosby, though, because of how he plays. They hate him because he is a p*%!y. Plain and simple. I don't doubt that there are *some* people who would love to see him in a Flyers jersey. I'm not one of them, though. If the Flyers ever acquired Sidney Crosby I would stop watching them. Period.

People hated Pronger when he played elsewhere. In a Flyers jersey, you'd think he was the second coming.

Let's get over this idiotic BS - it's hockey - it's a contact sport. Just take the appropriate opportunity for a payback when the time comes and move on. That's how competitive sports are played. This is not a "story" - just filling up space because there is no action. Then again, maybe the flyers should consider this non-season as a good thing.

I love rivalries and hate Cindy too... but after Lindros, Primeau, and now Pronger as well as many other players going down, lets stick to making fun of his lady parts and ease off the concussion stuff. These guys do have to live after hockey.

Crosby's not accountable for what he says. Concussed you know. I don't feel bad about it. "It's comedy to me."

The greatest Flyer ever, Bobby Clarke, makes Crosby slashes look whimpy.

True farley, but Clarkie didn't dive, and whine every time someone checked him. This guy's a punk, pure and simple.

Crosby is the best diver in the world, see her in action, even better than the Chinese Olympic divers:

Crosby is the best whiner of all time:

comments like this are why Crosby has not yet attained the status of Gretzky. Gretzky was protected yes, but he still played hard and never complained or looked to the ref for a call. (Sure he got them but not by asking for them). Crosby's comments one day will earn him a blistering hit that will end his career, and then he'll take to the airwaves and newspapers crying about how his career ended early, NHL didn't do enough, I was a marked man, blah blah blah. But he will have no one to blame but himself.
And Clarke had Schultz to back him up; Crosby has no one nearly as tough as the Hammer.
