Boucher out 7-10 days

Flyers goaltender Brian Boucher will be out at least 7-to-10 days with a "lower body injury."

Flyers goaltender Brian Boucher will be out at least 7 to 10 days, general manager Paul Holmgren said on Sunday afternoon.

Boucher left Saturday night's preseason game against New Jersey after just 11 minutes and 54 seconds with what the team is a calling a "lower body injury." He had allowed one goal on three shots until that point. Boucher said after the game that it happened on a movement – and he was not hit with a shot or another player – making it more likely to be a groin or hamstring pull.

"We believe it's just minor," Holmgren said on a conference call. "We think it was a tweak. It's obviously something that we will monitor closely."

That means that Boucher will miss the Flyers' season-opening road trip; they travel to Raleigh, N.C., for Friday's game against the Hurricanes.

Johan Backlund has been summoned from Glens Falls, N.Y., to take Boucher's place. Backlund was the Flyers' third goalie for most of training camp. Starter Ray Emery will likely see most – if not all – of the Flyers action in the regular season until Boucher is healthy.

A full report on Backlund and everything else will be in Monday's Daily News.
