McGillin's named one of top St. Patrick's bars in U.S.

The Huffington Post is out with a list of five - yes, only five - bars throughout the entire U.S.A. where you should celebrate St. Patrick's Day. At the top is McGillin's Olde Ale House tucked away in Center City, Philly's oldest bar.

The Huffington Post is out with a list of five - yes, only five - bars throughout the entire U.S.A. where you should celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

At the top is McGillin's Olde Ale House tucked away off 13th Street  in Center City, and it happens to be Philly's oldest bar (circa 1860).

Authors Clint Lanier and Derek Hembree of "Bucket List Bars: Historic Saloons, Pubs & Dives of America" call it "one of the most beloved old bars in the nation, and of course the city of Philadelphia."

"It features a wealth of local and craft beers, great food, and an extensive spirit selection. It is overflowing on Saint Patrick's Day, but there are few other places in Philly to experience an authentic Irish pub and especially on such a special occasion. This place is worth your while, so make the effort to get here."

McGillin's opens an hour earlier, at 10 a.m., on March 17.

HuffPo also recently gave 31 reasons why Philadelphia is America's most underrated city, and the food reasons include BYOBs, soft pretzels, and the cheap "citywide" bar specials.
