Dogfish Head named official beer of Record Store Day

With brews like the hip-hop-inspired Positive Contact, or the eponymous liquid tribute to Miles Davis’ "Bitches Brew," Dogfish Head has long intertwined the love of great beer with the love of great music. This year, though, they’ve made it legitimate by becoming the official beer of Record Store Day.

With brews like the hip-hop-inspired Positive Contact, or the eponymous liquid tribute to Miles Davis' Bitches Brew, Dogfish Head has long intertwined the love of great beer with the love of great music. This year, though, they've made it legitimate by becoming the official beer of Record Store Day.

Touting themselves as "analog beer for the digital age," Dogfish Head announced the news today by teasing an upcoming compilation dubbed Music to Drink Beer To, along with a limited-edition turntable on which to play it. The compilation's playlist will drop March 10, with a physical record release scheduled for Record Store Day on Saturday, April 18.

"Our brewery has been obsessed with music since long before we opened our doors," founder Sam Calagione said in a press release. "And these days, anytime I'm in the brewhouse, there's something playing."

Calagione worked with Adam Block of Sony Music's Legacy Recordings to build the compilation, which is described as a "legendary lineup of off-centered musicians." Of course, though, listening to it on a non-Dogfish-approved product just wouldn't be the same, so the brewery teamed up with Crosley turntables to release a $120 portable player featuring art from Marq Spusta, a concert poster artist and frequent Dogfish Head collaborator.

Additionally, a poster designed by Spusta will be available for free at select stores as the official Record Store Day poster:

A list of record stores and beer distributors carrying Dogfish's Record Store Day promotion will be available as April 18 approaches. Until then, stick to your regularly off-centered programming — or, you know, plan that long-awaited trip to PPL Park with Dogfish's coming river deck in mind.
