This past Wednesday, taking the proverbial bull by the horns as befits the New-Years-Resolution period, I made my way after work to The Standard Tap in Northern Liberties to do some hard-hitting investigative reporting into the Green Drinks culture.

For a while we here at Earth to Philly have been getting monthly reminders about the Green Drinks Delaware Valley  gatherings, but had not yet been able to venture out to one to see what all the fuss was about.

This past Wednesday, taking the proverbial bull by the horns as befits the New-Years-Resolution period, I made my way after work to The Standard Tap in Northern Liberties to do some hard-hitting investigative reporting into the Green Drinks culture. In order to blend in I even had a beer or two, or three. And an order of fries, which I must say were some of the best I've had in the entire Delaware Valley.

Attached to this post you'll find a 12-minute podcast report (MP3, 7 MB) from the field, providing, of course, not a comprehensive analysis but a few somewhat random slices of the different topics and conversations that make up this monthly event. You'll hear three quick interviews, one with the co-founder of the Philly-based version of Green Drinks about how and why it all started, one with a fellow who has some good points to make about land recycling and another with a Philadelphia University grad student so committed that he moved into a house built as a sustainability experiment.

This is mainly a 'field recording,' and though we stepped outside to keep the noise level down it will not be mistaken for a polished studio product. I don't think the beer is to blame. Maybe the fries.

More info on Green Drinks Delaware Valley, which happens monthly at (currently) five different locations around the city and suburbs, can be found here.
