'Archer' lands...Burt Reynolds

Under the category Whatever Happened to...? file this: Burt Reynolds will guest-star next season on FX’s animated “Archer.”

This may or may not be exciting to the viewers FX usually attracts, many of whom are too young to remember a time when Reynolds was famous for something other than being, well, Burt Reynolds, but it’s definitely exciting to FX, which released the following statement from “Archer” creator Adam Reed:

"I think the only person on the planet who’s a bigger fan of Burt Reynolds than me is Sterling Archer. Archer constantly tries to imitate Burt and always raves about Burt’s movies and all-around awesomeness. So to have Burt recording voice-overs for the show was just amazing.”

In the episode, which won’t air until January — when the spy spoof begins its third season — the 75-year-old Reynolds plays himself as a love interest for Agent Archer’s mother, Malory, who’s also his boss.
And as you can see here, the animated Burt cleans up nicely.

The non-animated one's not bad, either.

About this blog
Yes, I'm a TV critic. But I've always believed my job is less about thumbs -- up or down -- and more about the conversation. Because the more choices we have, the fewer people in our lives know what we're talking about when we say, "Did you see that?" And that's when television really starts to get interesting.
