'Doctor Who' videos to rent on Facebook

BBC America's "Doctor Who" won't be back until fall, but starting tomorrow, fans of the time-traveling Doctor can delve into his past -- and his many incarnations -- through Facebook. The commercial arm of the Beeb, as some still call it in Britain, has decided to cash in on its archives and will be offering a selection of digitally remastered episodes from both the "classic" and modern-era series for 48-hour rentals through Facebook, using Facebook "credits" that can be purchased, naturally, through Facebook.

For those of us who still cling to the outmoded currency that measures stuff in dollars and cents, I asked someone at BBC Worldwide just what streaming old "Doctor Who" episodes will cost here in the U.S. (the offer's also available in Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand).

Each rental, she said, will cost 15 credits, "which I'm told is about $1.50."
