Chris Brown up for Nickelodeon Award

POSTED: Monday, March 9, 2009, 12:15 PM
Chris Brown faces TWO felony charges (Associated Press)

I'm working on a piece for tomorrow's Daily News that touches on the Chris Brown-Rihanna thing, reflecting how this story is evolving since my column last month about it.

But I had to take a moment to stop and see if it's true what I've been hearing about the Nickleodeon Kids' Choice Awards and Brown's being nominated for best male singer. And believe it or not, yes, he's one of four male singers up for the award.

This has to be an oversight. What a travesty it would be to see him come up on stage and get an award at a time like this. Please, say it ain't so, Nick!

I know Brown  hasn't been convicted of his two felony charges, but he has publicly apologized for battering his girlfriend. At this point, he's not someone who should be recognized unless they're planning to give him a dose of the show's trademark green slime.

I feel the same way about this that I felt about Diddy being on the cover of Essence Magazine a few years back for the Father's Day issue. Wrong wrong wrong.

The fact that neither her father, brother(s) or male friendss have not broken Brown's legs shows you how mcuh love she has in her life. That's why she's going back to him, I guess. Perhaps, in her twisted logic she feels "safe" with hi,. After all, what would Brown do if someone else ht her? He's probably get jealous and beat HER up instead of the culprit. Go figure. www.djatajabs.com

Let me see, what can I say that hasnt already been said about this. Hmmmm, do women deep down inside want their man to hit them? I'm not being an a-hole i'm being serious because they all go back for seconds. I mean women who know that you wont hit them will get very disrepectful to that man. Get all up in their face, cursing, demeaning, belittling a man because he wont hit you. He's a punk, right? I've never hit a woman, maybe that's why I'm single now. Again, i'm not being an a-hole, i'm being sarcastically honest.

his nomination and continuous promotion by every media outlet, despite his despicable character and blatant complete lack of any talent what so ever, proves that he is connected with the right people in the business. it demonstrates everything that is wrong with the corporatization of the music business

I never realized how gross Chris Brown looks up close. Especially after this huge blow up, I have no respect for him, and my respect is damaged for Rihanna, since reports are saying she's still with him. So, so scary. Get safe girl. - Luisa profitablenuggets.com

Rihanna is cute and a marginally talented singer. Some would allow that that passes for "entertainer". Chris Brown on the other hand, is a talentless scumbag. None of these "pop stars" bring anything to the table. I say have no awards untill someone does something worth rewarding.

It's not about singing; it's about what's selling! All that crowd stinks to me including that tone deaf American Idol crowd!

I hear you Cleanup... Again, I do not condone domestic violence but 9 times out of 10 the women goes back anyway. All I am saying is just because they are celebs in some peoples eyes, why is it covered so much. I don't want to see it on all channels and in newspapers. Again, not belittling anyone who has suffered from domestic violence but go to the shelters and cover everyday people men and women victims.

Who really cares, honestly.. I do not support any man hitting a woman but it happens everyday and it is not publicized as much as this incident. If people would STOP putting entertainers and athletes on a pedestal this would not be such a BIG story. Get over over it or cover all domestic violence case no matter who they are.

I'm sure the people criticizing his music would have been among the rabble rioting outside the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in 1913. Brown's musical genius is as undeniable as it is groundbreaking. Ignorance truly reigns in this day and age if we lock up the man who very well may be the Messiah that heralds a new age of musical consciousness.

The guy's a loser scumbag pig. Hell no he shouldn't be up for an award... And FYI, Cleanupphilly - Disney doesn't own Nickeloden - they're competitors.

The awards show should remove him from the ballot or his handlers should request that. I think he made a mistake and he is not the only one that has done this before(not that I condone hitting a woman), because if he would have done this with someone else or her it would have been widely publicized by now...

What happened to innocent until proven guilty? No one knows if he's really done the things the media has accused him of. This reeks of racism - god forbid that the privileged, white children watching Nickelodeon should be forced to see an African-American win an award based on his prodigious talent.

This guy is a low life scum bag and should be removed just not fro any Nickelodean awards but any other music awards that he may be up for until his trial and any sentences are over. What a jerk!

Beeline, I agree........if he hit her once he will do it again. Her eyes are wide open now and if she goes back to him...oh well then...she gets what she gets

While his talent is separate from his girlfriend-battering personal life, leaving him on the ballot is like saying it's all right that he hit Rhianna. That's a great lesson for kids to learn.
