Sources: Police eyeing building caretaker in Drexel grad's slaying

A caretaker who previously worked in the building where slain Drexel University graduate Jasmine Wright lived is considered a person of interest in the case, a police source told the Daily News today.

That 56-year-old man met with investigators over the weekend for questioning in Wright's death. Detectives were led to him by the victim's neighbors, who believed he had information about her final hours, a source close to the case said.

The People Paper is withholding the suspect's name because he has not been charged in the 27-year-old's slaying.

Instead, court records show he remains in custody on $5 million bail at Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility on burglary and criminal-trespass charges from an incident Wednesday. Wright's battered body was discovered Thursday by police in her apartment on 50th Street near Locust in West Philly.

Investigators are waiting for DNA test results from evidence found inside Wright's home, which showed no signs of forced entry or ransacking, indicating she knew who killed her, according to police.

Last week, the New York City native's friends mourned her death and the loss of a promising future that included ambitions to work in the public-health field.

A memorial service for Wright is being held tonight at the Monumental Baptist Church, across the street from her apartment.
